The Ballet Dancer was composed in 1998 when I was a rehearsal pianist for ballet classes. The teacher got tired of syllabus music one day, and she asked me to improvise something in 3 counts on the spot. I remember the girls were doing bar exercises at that moment. The melody flowed out naturally after the first 4 bars of introduction, and that was how the title came about. The teacher liked it very much and I completed the rest of the piece when I returned home.
